Loan Policy: Your Library Card
How to get a card?
When you apply, please bring:
A Photo ID with a signature, either of:
- Dept. of Motor Vehicle ID (NYS or Other) Drivers License or
non-license ID Card
- Student ID
- Military ID
- Sheriffs ID
- Dept. of Social Services Card
And
Address Verification, either of:
- A current utility bill w/ your name and address
- A check or deposit slip
- A current credit card bill
- Paperwork from: Dept. of Social Services Dept. of Labor, or
other official agency
- As a last resort, we can fill out a postcard and mail it to
you. When you receive it, bring it in as proof
A post office box address only will not be acceptable. We
need a street address. Patrons will be asked to fill out an application with their name,
address and phone number. Children's applications must be signed by a parent or guardian
who possesses the forms of ID mentioned above.

Fees and Fines:

If you have more than $2.00 in fines, your borrowing
privileges will be suspended until they are paid. The Replacement cost for all
non-returned material is charged to the borrower's record.
Printing and Photocopying: There is a per
page charge.
Damaged Items: If an item cannot be
circulated again because of damage caused by the borrower, the replacement cost for that
item will be charged. If significant damage has been caused, but the item can still
circulate, a determination will be made as to the appropriate fee.
Payment: All fines and fees must be
paid in full for a borrower to maintain library privileges. Payment may be made in cash or
check payable to: Amsterdam Free Library. Fees for bad checks will be added to the
borrower's record.
After Hours Returns: A book drop is
available in the parking lot next to the library. Items may also be returned to another
library within the 8 counties served by MVLA and SALS (See List). Please allow enough
travel time to avoid fines.
Overdue Materials: When an Item is 2
weeks overdue, a reminder will be sent by mail to the patron. |
